

Adam Read is a recognised authority on waste strategy management and has over 16 years of operational waste management experience. Adam's approach to his work has gained him a well-earned reputation as a knowledge leader and innovator in his field of expertise. He was recently awarded an honorary professorship for his pioneering work on waste communication and public engagement.
He is responsible for directing, managing and contributing to a range of consultancy projects in the areas of waste management strategy, recycling service design and delivery, stakeholder engagement, product policy, life-cycle thinking and behaviour change. He has worked with the UK Government on a range of local waste strategy and service delivery projects, including leading the consultancy team that developed the Defra funded New Technologies Training Programme and the Welsh Assembly Government Community Engagement Training Guide.
Adam's successes have made a huge impact in affecting behaviours relating to waste management. He has developed ground-breaking industry training materials on treatment technologies and sustainable waste management for local authorities and private sector companies (including Shanks and Veolia)- and specialises in large-scale infrastructure procurement – both PPP and PFI (including work with Essex, West Sussex and North London Authorities) and stakeholder consultation (North Wales Residual Waste Partnership, and the West of England Waste Partnership).
Adam is recognised as a leading waste management academic, with an extensive portfolio of research papers, PhD examinations, visiting fellowships, teaching posts, conference articles and collaborative investigations,. Adam has peer reviewed DEFRA funded waste management research proposals, and remains at the forefront of innovative thinking in the resources and waste management sectors, contributing regularly to RRF, CIWM and EIC working groups.
He is also leading on the development of 12 more professional waste management work forces in the UK and internationally through his academic collaborations, graduate mentoring and industry training programmes. Adam has worked in both environmental policy and engineering consultancies, was responsible for local authority recycling services in inner London and managed a research group at a Kingston University specialising in resource policy, behavioural change, and environmental economics.
Adam has contributed to BBC and Open University documentaries and is a regular panellist on BBC local radio – discussing the street scene, recycling service provision and producer responsibility. He has a BA in Geography and his PhD considered the need for statutory recycling targets In the UK.
Phil Dolley is a Principal Consultant leading AEA's work relating to product policy. He has over 19 years' experience of directing, managing and performing resource efficiency, product eco-design, ecolabelling, sustainable procurement, product life cycle, environmental and renewable energy projects. He is an accomplished project manager and director. Phil has provided Defra and the European Commission with technical advice regarding the EU Ecolabel Scheme for 10 years during which time he grew and managed AEA's ecolabel team and all the projects the team undertook.
He has also assisted the Commission's development of ecolabel strategy by undertaking work to identify preferred candidate product groups for the scheme to adopt. He is presently advising the Commission as to how EuP and ecolabel activities could be more firmly linked to secure procedural efficiencies and cost savings whilst operating within the policy framework.
Phil led Defra Market Transformation Programme's waste activities developing the MTP's waste strategy and its subsequent evolution. He devised and managed the project's to secure the strategy, identifying product eco-design options, potential resource efficiency savings and policy options to deliver both. He managed the interface with other Delivery Bodies developing co-funded projects.
Euston Ling is a chartered waste manager with 16 years of experience in the UK and international waste management and sustainable resource sector. Working as a waste management professional, Euston has been heavily involved in providing technical advice to local authorities throughout the UK, particularly in the area of procurement and numerical modelling. To this end, he has produced numerous business cases and carbon management reports, along with waste management blueprints for a several local and international projects.
Prior to working as a waste consultant, Euston worked for the major public sector waste management company in Australia - Waste Service NSW - and was responsible for assessing and implementing technical and business development opportunities. In this role, he had lead accountability for delivering waste sorting, processing, and disposal arrangements for the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
