The Climate Change Act (2008) introduced five year "carbon budgets" and a target to reduce emissions by at least 34 per cent by 2020. During the latest volcanic eruption there is intense interest in the possible air quality and health impacts and whether the volcanic ash plume is grounding in the UK. Three websites that will provide official reporting on UK air quality are:

These sites use daily forecasts and near-real-time measurements of ground-level pollutants from locations across the UK as managed by AEA's air quality team. The published information is intended to inform people as to their exposure when they carry out their normal day-to-day activities. Updates on these sites over the coming days are expected to pick up and report on the grounding of Grimsvotn's ash plume in the UK.
