AEA Knowledge Leaders to chair sessions at Sustainability Live! conference

Two of AEA's Knowledge leaders have been invited to chair sessions at this year's Sustainability Live! conference, the UK's largest event for excellence and innovation for the environment, energy, water, sustainability and remediation sectors.

Nik Hill, AEA's Knowledge Leader for Transport Technologies and Fuels, will chair a session entitled "Sustainable Transport in the 21st Century".  The session will cover the increasingly high profile topics of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from heavy duty vehicles and vans.  AEA was asked to take on this role, following our leading edge work for the European Commission on the topic of tackling GHG emissions from heavy duty vehicles.

The EC study on GHG emissions from heavy duty vehicles, published February 2011 (PDF) is available here.

Dr Adam Read, AEA's Global Practice Director for Waste Management & Resource Efficiency, will be chairing the waste procurement seminar stream.  Here, company based zero waste initiatives are on the agenda and Adam will be presenting his thoughts around on-site auditing, staff empowerment, and business resilience and resource efficiency - many of the pressing issues facing industry today.

The waste seminar stream will also see Adam discuss the big issues concerning the delivery of new waste infrastructure to support local authority targets - from zero waste to meeting EU landfill directive requirements.  This session is likely to cover community engagement and planning as they represent two of the biggest issues facing waste infrastructure delivery. It also likely to include an overview of the varied risks associated with waste infrastructure - from financing, to planning, to feedstock quality and consistency; and proposed mitigation options and suitable owners - the local authority, their contractor, 3rd party etc.

Sustainability Live! takes place at the NEC in Birmingham on 24th May. The conference programme can be found here.
